Lower your cholesterol with flaxseeds or alsi
Looking for a natural remedy to lower cholesterol? Here’s one – flaxseeds or alsi
Flaxseeds (also called linseeds) have several properties that make them a good natural remedy for lowering cholesterol. Firstly, they are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids that have a protective effect on the heart. Secondly, they contain a lot of dietary fibre that increases the absorption of bad cholesterol (LDL) from the bloodstream by the liver. They also are known to increase the level of apolipoprotein A1, which converts to HDL cholesterol or good cholesterol that again helps lower bad cholesterol level.
There are various studies showing a positive impact of flaxseeds on lowering cholesterol levels. A study by Kristensen M and colleagues showed that both flax drinks and bread containing flaxseeds caused a decrease in the total plasma level of LDL in participants with high cholesterol. It also increased fat excretion, suggesting a potential role of flaxseeds in balancing energy along with cholesterol levels.
