Canon Pav bhaji stall at CST, Mumbai- No longer the poor man's rich food!

Thirty plus years and still going, that's Canon Pav Bhaji Stall at CST, for you. Once upon a time, in it's first ten years or so, It used to be the place where everyone, rich or poor used to flock to for a healthy, rich and filling meal. The Pav Bhaji served there was yummilicious and the cashews , kismis and spring onions only added more nutrients to that butter rich , veg heavy diet. Now, for the past several years ever since the onion crisis hit a high note, the rates have gone up and the content has gone down. It's still buttery but the veggies content has become sparse. The bhaji is more watery and the cashews, kismis and spring onions are missing. The rate for a plate of Pav bhaji has also skyrocketed from  Rs 10 per plate to the current Rs 75//-. In fact in the last one year alone the rate has increased from Rs 50/- to rs 60/- to Rs 75/- per plate and there's is absolutely no improvement in the quality of the meal. The hike appears totally unjustified since the onion crisis has come and gone and veggie prices have also seen a concerted dip. The proof is in the low turnout of clientele too, the poor can no longer afford the exorbitant rate card and the rich have too many other options to slum it out there. That leaves the middle class who are too worried about the strain on their pockets to seek out Canon. The current position doesn't augur well for long term existence of this once much loved Pav bhaji centre.
